Africa 2010 Team Journal – Lorna’s Shoe Update
I am a shoe freak and many of my friends know it. So when I posted on my facebook before my trip that I was taking only one pair of shoes to Africa, it provoked many comments. People were very concerned and thought I needed to take at least two pair. Because of their concern, I ended up taking an extra pair, which just happened to be brand new.
After arriving in Africa, I met a young woman who grew up in the US. She now lives in Africa and is married to a national–They have a true heart for ministry and are putting it into action. They have taken eleven boys who were literally living on the street into their family home. She and her husband have a deep burden for boys in this situation. They have very little and yet are giving so much.
The day after I met this woman, I felt impressed to give her my extra pair of brand-new shoes (which I almost didn’t even bring). My inclination was confirmed when I asked her what shoe size she wore and she told me the exact size of my feet. I later found out that the shoes she has were purchased almost three years ago at a second-hand store in the US. She was giving praise to the Lord and compared herself to the children of Israel since their shoes never seemed to wear out as they walked the desert. At that moment, I knew why I had brought that extra pair.
It was a great joy to give her those shoes–I told her that they were a gift from the Lord! How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news–now her beautiful feet have some new shoes on them as she brings good news to boys in desperate situations.
Thanks Facebook Friends for making me bring two pairs!!!
